摘要
The role of livestock on economic and environment status cannot be over emphasized on the livelihood of the people of Cambodia. Livestock production faces many challenges in the country ranging from inadequate fund, insufficient feed, low market prices and many other social factors. This study was aimed at finding out what empirical factors influence the behavior of rural farmers to decide whether to increase or cut down the number of pigs raised in Battambang of Cambodia. About 204 farmers were interviewed with each raising combination of chicken, pig and/or cattle. The study applies Tobit and Stepwise regression to estimate the demographic and socioeconomic factors influencing the number of pig rear by farmers. The result showed that that education, family size and male household head positively influence the number of pigs raised by each the farmers while the factor such as off-farm jobs influence otherwise. To increase the number of pigs, the study recommends the government and private sector involvement in strengthening of the education and extension services.
