Abstract
The Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) has required programs to maintain rigorous quality management programs since its inception in 1996. More recently, increased demand for quality processes and measures has extended to other accrediting bodies as well as regulatory agencies and payers as they seek opportunity to demonstrate improved transplant processes, outcomes, and value in light of healthcare reform. BMT programs have been eager—if not sometimes desperate—for quality expertise both at the local level as well as the national level to assist and guide them in developing and monitoring Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) plans. FACT and The American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) have had separate committees working in parallel to help educate center personnel on quality processes and quality management plans. Within the ASBMT Administrative Directors' SIG Quality Working Committee and the FACT Quality Management Committee, quality experts collaborated in a meta-planning process to support transplant clinical programs in sharing and learning commendable quality practices through the development of the first FACT-ASBMT Quality Boot Camp at the 2016 BMT Tandem Meetings. Almost 75% of attendees who completed post-surveys reported they would attend again. Aggregated data reveals the significant need for this type of forum and is leading to the development of quality tools. Future Quality Boot Camps in a variety of venues are being designed and building upon results from the 2016 conference.
