Automated milk fat extraction for the analyses of persistent organic pollutants.

•The first step to a less expensive, simplified Persistent Organic Pollutants Method.•An automated fat extraction technique is proposed for POPs analyses.•Automated acid hydrolysis and soxhlet extractions are used to obtain fat.•Milk fat for 60 samples can be obtained in a 40h work week.•Reduction in the use of organic solvents during extraction of POPs.
