•Selective continuous gas phase imine synthesis via reductive coupling.•Supported Au exhibits higher selectivity (up to 99%) than benchmark Pd/TiO2.•TOF increased with decreasing Au size (8–3nm); support oxygen vacancies lower rate.•Increased contact time enhanced imine yield.
