The relationship between arch height and foot length: Implications for size grading

•The direct proportional relationship of foot length and instep dimensions was explored in a normal population.•Foot length demonstrated poor predictive ability on variation of dorsal and plantar arch height.•Footwear design based on proportionate scaling of instep dimensions with foot length may not be ideal for an ergnomic fit.
