•MnO2/MWCNT composites were used for the first time in the electrocatalysis system.•The self-made electrode exhibited high catalytic activity and reusability.•Electrooxidation and electroreduction simultaneously occurred in TBBPA decomposition.•Intermediates were identified and possible degradation pathway was proposed.
