Abstract
•Contrasting auxin levels between adjacent tissues locally activate distinct transcription factors during tissue reunion in incised stems.•Besides auxin, some unknown cell-to-cell signaling pathways are required for graft formation.•Root tip regeneration is dependent on polar auxin transport and acts through the WOX5/SCR/PLT pathways.•Wounding-induced adventitious root formation is triggered by downstream effectors of auxin maxima.•ALF4, WIND1 and some WOX genes are a key to establish developmental plasticity of plant cells.
