Abstract
•A unique pre-authorization system has been used in Turkey since 2003.•This system alone had an important role in decreasing inappropriate antimicrobial use.•Using prospective audit and feedback further decreased the days of therapy.•A combination of the two systems improved appropriate antibiotic usage.
