Synthesis of n-Butyl Propionate Catalyzed by Gallium Sulfate

Objective To study the catalytic activity of gallium sulfate in the synthesis of n-butyl propionate. Methods The effects of amount of gallium sulfate, molar ratio of alcohol to acid, reaction time and repeated times of catalyst on the yield of n-butyl propionate were investigated. Results Gallium sulfate had high catalytic activity and could be recovered easily, operated simply, post-treated conveniently and used repeatedly. Under the best conditions, the yield of n-butyl propionate could reach 86.03%. Conclusion Gallium sulfate is an excellent catalyst for the synthesis of n-butyl propionate.
