A BIO-OPTICAL MODEL FOR OCEAN PHOTOSYNTHETIC AVAILABLE RADIATION
Tropic Oceanology(2002)
Abstract
On the basis of a standard atmospheric model and the semianalytical method of biooptical properties of case 1 waters,a numerical model of photosynthetic available radiation has been established. It involves all transmission processes of light radiation in atmosphere, airsea interface and water column, and can be used to analyze the effects of chlorophyll concentration and light angular distribution on the determination of photosynthetic available radiation. Through analyzing the model results and comparing them to the measured data in situ, it is shown that this numerical model can be used to estimate and calculate light attenuation coefficient, depthwavelength dependence of underwater irradiance, depth wavelength dependence of photosynthetic available radiation and depth of euphotic layer. The model has a good prospect in the studies of ocean color remote sensing and light dynamics of ocean ecosystem
