Abstract
The classical theory of gas lubrication assumes that the flow regime is laminar and the inertia forces in the gas film are negligible.Since the middle of 20th century,a variety of high speed or large size bearings lubricated with low viscous fluid are used in space and cryogenic domain widely, inertia effects and non laminar flow can occur.A combined Poiseuille-Couette three-dimensional flow can be occurred in the thin film, the boundary layer effect and the inertia forces will be important, therefore the thin film equation of lubrication is not appropriate anymore.A general view of non-laminar lubrication was presented. The effects of inertia forces in laminar and in turbulent flows were shown. The mathematical model of gas bearings operating in turbulent flow regime were built in theory.A better solution to these problems was pointed out which was the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations as one of the development tendencies of gas lubrication.
