On-farm assessment of different rice crop management practices in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, using sustainability performance indicators

•Improved rice crop management practices were evaluated in farmers’ rice fields.•Assessments were made using eight Sustainable Rice Platform performance indicators.•Five of eight indicators showed an improvement in sustainability performance.•Through a reduction in pesticide, fertilizer and seed, profit increased by 17–31%.•Adoption of these practices can enhance the sustainability of rice production.
