Introduction: Psychological determinants of health such as depression, anxiety and stress are important considerations in cardiovascular health promotion and illness prevention efforts. However, psychological morbidity either have not been studied, understudied, underestimated or disparately estimated among Asian subpopulations. Data and strategies to improve cardiovascular health and reduce disparities among Asians are global health goals. Purpose: This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence and correlates of depression, anxiety and stress in a sample of Filipinos from low income communities in the Philippines. Methods: Nine-hundred sixty-nine adults, aged 49.4 ± 19.0 years, 64.5% women, completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale, a self-reported perceived stress survey, and the Short-Form 12 quality of life (QOL) questionnaire.
