摘要

•Size selected O3−(H2O)n and O2−(H2O)n clusters with n = 0–4 were reacted with CH3Cl in the gas phase.•O2−(H2O)n clusters reacts readily with CH3Cl in an SN2 reaction, O3−(H2O)n clusters do not.•The computed SN2 reaction barriers are in accordance with the experimental observations.
