Synthetic, electrochemical, spectroscopic, and structural studies of mixed sandwich Co(III) complexes involving Cp or Cp* with tridentate N-donor and S-donor macrocycles

Mixed sandwich complexes of Co(III) involving either a macrocyclic thioether [9]aneS3 or azaether [9]aneN3 along with Cp and Cp* have been prepared and structurally characterized. With the electron-deficient small Co(III) ion, both ligands are forced to coordinate as σ-donors, and this type of interaction has been explored both in the solid-state by single-crystal X-ray diffraction as well as in solution by cyclic voltammetry, NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy.
