Object detection with class aware region proposal network and focused attention objective

•The paper proposes the CARPN method to produce high-quality region proposals for object detection.•The proposed CARPN can jointly learn the discriminative objectness with a R-CNN based object detector.•The paper also proposes the FA objective to eliminate the negative effects caused by background features.•The proposed FA objective is co-optimized with the detection loss and remarkably improves the performance.
