•Hydration of OPC pastes blended with recycled OPC paste was studied.•Whatever T°, decreasing RH accelerates drying and decreases hydration level.•Whatever RH, decreasing T° decreases the hydration level.•The lower the clinker content, the higher the critical RH hampering hydration.•The critical curing RH depends on properties intrinsic to the material.
