Abstract
Wi-Fi has become imperative to our day-to-day tasks whether at work or at home. Internet surfing nowadays requires more data usage due to the increase in the number of connected devices and the rapid growth of multimedia applications comprising high-resolution photos and high definition video content. Unfortunately, the majority of internet service providers enforce a quota on the amount of data a user can consume. Over-consumption usually results in extra fees or speed reduction. In this paper, we develop a plug-and-play device with an accompanying mobile app that are able to help users monitor the total and individual Wi-Fi consumptions and set quota limits, without the hassle of contacting the service providers or accessing routers which are not always equipped with such features. The system has been implemented using Raspberry-Pi and iOS and proven to be effective and user friendly.
