In most areas, we identified five sedimentary layers. The first one, having Vp velocities of 1.8 to 2.2 km/s, consists of Neogene formations. The following one with 3.3 to 3.4 km/s is built by the west Hellenic flysch, which is placed directly on Mesozoic limestones. These have Vp velocities of 5.5 to 5.8 km/s. The Mesozoic limestones are placed on Triassic evaporites of 4.3 km/s wave speed, thus creating a velocity inversion. Below the Triassic evaporites, a lower limestone layer is mapped, having Vp velocities of 5.9 to 6.2 km/s and 4 km thickness. This layer contains the oil and gas bearing formations, which are trapped below the Triassic evaporites. All these sedimentary sequences are placed on continental crust, having its maximum thickness of 40 km below Ippiros, western Greece.Presentation Date: Thursday, October 18, 2018Start Time: 8:30:00 AMLocation: 210A (Anaheim Convention Center)Presentation Type: OralKeywords: 2D, Europe, ocean-bottom node, sediment, subsaltPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2018-2995356.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2018ISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2018 Pages: 5520 publication data© 2018 Published in electronic format with permission by the Society of Exploration GeophysicistsPublisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished Online: 27 Aug 2018 CITATION INFORMATION Jannis Makris and Joanna Papoulia, (2018), "Mapping sedimentary basins and crust on/offshore western Greece by deep seismic soundings: The Corfu and Lefkas-Killini profiles," SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts : 1718-1722. https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2018-2995356.1 Plain-Language Summary Keywords2DEuropeocean-bottom nodesedimentsubsaltPDF DownloadLoading ...
