Micronized silymarin extract reduced hepatotoxic effect of fenofibrate in hereditary hypertriglyceridemic rats

Aim: Hypolipidemic effect of fibrates, mediated by PPARα activation, can be accompanied by liver damage due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Hepatoprotective effect of silymarin was demonstrated in clinical and experimental studies. We investigated whether silymarin improves negative effect of fenofibrate in experimental model of metabolic syndrome, hereditary hypertriglyceridemic rats (HHTg).
