Directionally-solidified dendrite morphology with eight secondary arms in an FCC ordered phase alloy

•Directional solidification of the Ni-base γ′ single-phase alloy was investigated.•The dendrite has eight secondary arms growing in the high-Miller-index directions.•The dendrite is likely to result from anisotropic atomic stacking of L12.
