Abstract
This paper proposes an optimization model and method for optimal sitting and parameter selection of series resonant-type fault current limiters (SRFCLs) considering the various power system operation mode decided by optimal economic dispatch of generators. The objective function of the optimization model is to minimize of the total cost of SRFCLs and power loss increment. A mathematical model is developed based on fruit fly optimization algorithm (FOA), whose solving strategy is advanced referring to particle swarm optimization (PSO) solving method and the biological characteristics of the searching fruit fly's consciousness. A case study has been carried out with a modified New England 39 bus test system using Matlab software and Matpower toolbox, which demonstrates that the proposed methodology is effective.
