Delayed tree mortality, bark beetle activity, and regeneration dynamics five years following the Wallow Fire, Arizona, USA: Assessing trajectories towards resiliency

•Post-fire mortality was stable across treatments, with no significant differences.•Abundant ingrowth of small hardwoods occurred throughout the study area.•The proportion of trees attacked by beetles was twice as high in untreated units.•Conifer regen decreased and hardwood regen increased with increasing burn severity.•Conifer regeneration was nearly three times higher in treated units.
