Abstract
•Pyrolysis characteristics of the mixtures of MSW with additives was investigated.•MSW with pine showed higher tar yield compared to these with CaO and char.•Synergetic effect of MSW and pine results in higher hydrogen-containing gas yield.•Additives lead to decrease in PAHs and Benzene, and increase in carboxylic acids.•Tar from MSW can be upgraded via pyrolysis of MSW with the additives.
