Iridium oxide on indium-tin oxide nanowires: An all metal oxide heterostructured multi-electrode array for neuronal interfacing

•All metal oxide heterostructured multielectrode arrays are proposed.•Iridium oxide layer is electrodeposited on the indium-tin oxide nanowires.•Enhanced charge injection limit confirms the synergetic effect of the heterostructures.•The heterostructures are effective in inducing long-term potentiation.
