Abstract
•Oxygen turnover in NaWMn/SiO2 occurs via complex chemical and phase transitions.•Oxygen removal and uptake are associated with a Mn3+ ↔ Mn2+ transition.•Several crystalline and molten phases are involved into the redox transformation.•The catalyst performance is improved in the presence of liquid (molten) phases.
