Differential effects of sheep and cow skim milk before and after fermentation on gastrointestinal transit of solids in a rat model

•GI transit effect of dairy milk species and fermentation was investigated.•Non-invasive high resolution X-ray imaging tracked transit of solid material.•Stomach emptying was more complete for sheep yogurt drink compared with cow yoghurt drink.•Colonic transit was increased in animals fed sheep milk drinks compared with cow milk drinks.
