Abstract

•PCM loading of calcium alginate microcapsules was maximized by experimental design.•High PCM content could be achieved using highly viscous sodium alginate.•Microcapsules were also prepared using bio-originated coconut oil as PCM.•In a scaled-up process the coconut oil content was 81.5%.•Differential scanning calorimetry also proved high latent heat storing capacity.
