In the last 30 years, technological advances such as FISH, microarray-based methods and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) have expanded the clinical cytogeneticist's armamentarium regarding clinical diagnostics. These methods have their unique advantages and relative disadvantages, but FISH continues to be a mainstay of clinical cytogenetics.
