•Freezing/frosting and droplets flooding of micro-structured surfaces are studied.•Hierarchically-structured silicon behaves the best anti-freezing performance.•Micro-cubes silicon is more icephobic than micro-cylinders silicon.•Droplets condensation evolution on micro-structured samples is compared via ESEM.
