Ulcerative fibroadenomatous hyperplasia in pregnant queens: two medically managed cases

Case history: A one-year-old primiparous domestic shorthair cat and a two-year-old primiparous Maine Coon developed an abnormal bilateral mammary swelling at mid-pregnancy, typical of fibroadenomatous hyperplasia (FAH). In both cases, ulcerations appeared at the end of pregnancy. Clinical findings: Ulcerative FAHs in these two pregnant queens were medically managed with aglepristone, without having to stop the pregnancy, or perform spaying and mammary surgeries. Kittens were allowed to suckle. Queens did not suffer from any relapse at their subsequent pregnancy. Clinical relevance: To the authors' best knowledge, these two cases are the first described cases of ulcerative FAH during pregnancy, medically managed without having to stop the pregnancy with aglepristone, or perform invasive surgeries, which led to a positive health and fertility outcome.
