SNPs were identified using DbH targeted exome sequencing in IBD patients.Only one nonsynonymous SNP, rs6271 (Arg549Cys), had a significant association with IBD patients.The allelic frequency of Arg549Cys was significantly increased in the IBD group when compared to controls (OR = 6.08, 95%CI: 1.917-19.27;p=0.002).Additionally, IBD (and healthy control) patients who were heterozygous for Arg549Cys had 80% less circulating D bH enzyme than individuals who were homozygous for the wild-type allele (Figure 1).Conclusions: This is the first report of a noradrenergic genetic polymorphism (rs6271; Arg549Cys) linked to IBD.This polymorphism appears to have a significant functional impact, as we demonstrated that it is associated with significantly lower levels of circulating D bH.This SNP could be useful as a potential biomarker to assess risk for IBD.These findings also provide further evidence that neuroimmune modulation can play a significant role in the pathophysiology of IBD.
