The more gender equity, the less child poverty? A multilevel analysis of malnutrition and health deprivation in 49 low- and middle-income countries

•Gender equity in education and employment is associated with less malnutrition.•Children whose mothers have no education also gain from gender equity.•Women’s empowerment is associated with a reduced risk of health deprivation.•Gender equity is associated with improved living conditions of children.
