Partitioning of mixed-mode fracture in adhesively-bonded joints: experimental studies

摘要
•The mixed-mode fracture energy for an adhesive joint was measured across the mode I-II fracture envelope.•Pure mode, symmetric and asymmetric test specimens were employed.•Data analysis was performed using an effective crack length approach.•The fracture energy was partitioned via local and global schemes and the semi-analytical cohesive analysis (SACA) scheme.•The SACA partitioning was shown to be fundamentally superior to the traditional partitioning schemes for mixed-mode.•The SACA scheme accounts for the influence of both material properties and test geometry on the size of the cohesive length.
