Effect of pre-ozonation on nanofiltration membrane fouling during water reuse applications

•Pre-ozonation is an effective method for enhancing purification technologies in potable reuse applications.•Pre-ozonation of wastewater effluent with relatively low specific ozone dose mitigated nanofiltration membrane fouling.•Increasing the specific ozone dose did not provide a significant benefit in fouling reduction.•The removal of dissolved organic carbon by nanofiltration did not show a substantial change when pre-ozonation was applied.
