•LTA is a virulence factor which elicits severe inflammatory response in immune cells.•10-HDA alleviated LTA-induced pulmonary damage in vivo.•10-HDA inhibited the release of IL-6, TNF-α and NO in LTA-induced cells.•10-HDA attenuated LTA induced inflammation through MAPK signaling pathways.
