•Past and present Ostrinia nubilalis parasitoids complex were compared.•Old and recent studies carried out in the Po flood plain (Italy) were analyzed.•Eighteen species were recorded in the past (1920–1930)•Biodiversity decreased over time since more recently 9 species were recorded.
