Abstract
Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS), the most common clinical phenotype of chronic lung rejection, is the main cause of long term morbidity and mortality after lung transplantation. We identified and scored, by a computational approach, a panel of candidate miRNAs probably involved in BOS pathogenesis (Di Carlo et al. 2016) and documented an up regulation of two of them in OB with respect to normal lung tissue. In this work we aimed to expand these preliminary observations. Our objective was the identification of one or more key miRNAs involved in the fibro-obliterative process underlying OB which could be useful as early biomarkers and/or possible innovative therapeutic targets for the treatment of this condition.
