•VATS and RATS are considered the standard of care in early stage thymic tumors.•Regional lymphadenectomy should be included as part of surgical management.•Total thymectomy and thymomectomy is indicated also in non-MG Stage I–II tumors.•In Stage IVa patients (pleural), major pleural resections are indicated.
