Thermal mechanical characteristics of blanket first walls with different cooling channel shapes

•We evaluated thermal mechanical responses of first walls with different cooling channels.•We assessed the first wall integrity according to ASME BPVC Sec. III NH.•Creep-fatigue damage strongly affected the allowable load of the first wall.•Allowable loads of the first wall depended on the thermal mechanical responses.
