Environmental traits determining plant species distribution in selected midforest bogs

•Chemical parameters of soil (e.g. Eh, pH) and fluctuation of water table level affecting the plant species distribution.•Redox potential has an impact on distribution of peat bogs plant species.•Eh and level of water table explain about 19.6% of the total variability in species occurrence.•Fluctuation of water table during growing season is one of the main factors affecting the low species richness.
