Abstract
•Strontium niobates with different crystalline structure and morphology were synthesized via a hydrothermal method.•Strontium niobates were originally applied as a support of ruthenium catalysts for ammonia synthesis.•Flake structured Sr2Nb2O7 induced epitaxial growth of uniform Ru nanocrystallites with truncated pyramid shape.•Ba- or Cs-Ru/Sr2Nb2O7 catalyst demonstrated superior activity and stability for ammonia synthesis.
