•The RMF model is adopted for simulating the mass transfer process in CFB downer.•The generalized Boussinesq’s postulation is avoid for modeling the mass transfer.•Simulated results are in good agreement with experimental data in literatures.•Anisotropy of turbulent mass diffusion in the CFB downer is characterized.
