Evaluation of the use of dermal scutes and blood samples to determine organochlorine pesticides in Crocodylus moreletii : A non-destructive method for monitoring crocodiles and environmental health

•Plasma and scutes are good indicators for OCP body burdens in Morelet’s crocodiles.•It is not possible to infer the OCPs between tissues: not from plasma to scutes or vice versa.•Plasma is a better tissue for evaluating the individual health and local exposure to OCPs.•Scutes are most suitable for assessing OCPs over time in the environment.•Use morphometric measurement data in the individual’s body to avoid biases due to bioamplification.
