Effective moisture penetration depth model for residential buildings: Sensitivity analysis and guidance on model inputs

•This article describes a two-layer effective moisture penetration depth (EMPD) model.•A sensitivity analysis shows the sensitivity of the model to each of its inputs.•This analysis shows which inputs are important and how accurate they need to be.•The model with different sets of inputs is compared with field measured data.
