Simply and rapidly synthesized composites of MnO 2 nanosheets anchoring on carbon nanotubes as efficient sulfur hosts for Li-S batteries

•The composites offer extraordinary conductivity and outstanding chemisorption.•A reversible capacity of 841 mA h g−1 was maintained after 100 cycles at 0.5 C.•A high specific discharge capacity of 1566 mA h g−1 was achieved at 0.1 C.
