Bis(triazenide), tris(triazenide), and lantern-type of triazenide iron complexes: Synthesis and structural characterization

•Five rare examples of iron(triazenide) complexes are synthesized and characterized.•Simply switching to different ethereal solvents can control the coordination geometry of the octahedral iron(II) complexes.•A dinuclear iron(II) complex with shortest Fe(II)-Fe(II) is obtained.
