•There was an interaction between T. asperellum F14 and R. microporus in a dual culture.•T. asperellum F14 produced bioactive compounds inhibiting white root rot fungi and other plant pathogens.•GC–MS of T. asperellum F14 culture filtrate revealed many known antimicrobial compounds.
