Effects of accelerated human music on learning and memory performance of rats

•Rodentized (twice as fast as and one octave higher) music is in the hearing range of rodents.•Maze-learning capacity and memory performance showed a significant improvement at rats receiving musical stimuli before and during the tests.•The improving effect of music is transient: no effect on 4-h working memory.•Results are promising as it allows the development of a rat model for studying human memory disorders.
