Abstract
A novel design procedure aimed at reducing the radar cross section (RCS) and gain enhancement of microstrip patch antenna has been proposed. Aperiodic Modulated AMC metasurface is designed in such a way that the reflected field from the modulated AMC metasurfaces is in out of phase (i.e 180 deg) in a certain range of frequencies causing the destructive interference in this range. The design procedure consists of a careful study and comparisons of two unit cells of modulated AMC, Modulation is realized by parameters a and ψ, which are designed for reduction in the Radar Cross Section (RCS). This design is aimed to reduce the amount of metal used on the substrate and to achieve better results than the conventional designs. The working frequency of our design is 10.5 GHz, which is covered in the working band of the proposed antenna. The simulated results show that the design with an antenna possesses remarkable reduction in RCS in the frequency range from 6 GHz to 14 GHz for both polarizations. Moreover, the performance of radiation pattern of the antenna is not interrupted much. The modulated AMC patch antenna is simulated and designed using HFSS v.16.
